About this item

Aldo van den Nieuwelaar Model A251 Floor Lamp for Artimeta, Dutch Design 1972

Opaline glass shade on a metal foot by Dutch designer Aldo van den Nieuwelaar.

Aldo van den Nieuwelaar, born 1944, was a Dutch designer and architect. A designer he was inspired by Gerrit Rietveld, de Stijl en Bauhaus. This is clearly visible in his minimal and geometric designs. In his career he created furniture, carpets and was responsible for the design of the Dutch subway station “Waterlooplein” in Amsterdam. However, he gathered most recognition with his famous lighting designs. Some of his lamps are very popular and widely sought after Dutch midcentury design classics.

The floor lamp we present here is one of his classic designs. This light, model A251 was part of a series consisting of three models: two table (A250 and A252) and a floor lamp. They were produced by Artimeta the Netherlands in 1972. Our floor lamp is an original model from this year and an extremely rare piece. Not many were made and we have never seen one for sale before.

A unique and rare piece of Dutch design.

In good condition.
