Eric Merthen for IRE Mobler Attributed Scandinavian Modern Leather Lounge Chair, 1960
Lounge chair made of leather and wood attributed to Eric Merthen for IRE Mobler, Sweden.
Just like the Brazilian Sergio Rodrigues his ‘Sheriff’ lounge chair and the designs of Percival Lafer this one has a nice combination of the minimal usage of wood and excessive usage of leather. All within proportion. This makes the chair look attractive as a comfortable chair, without being too present in a room. We think it is a design by Eric Merthen from Sweden in the 1960’s. He designed a chair for Era Mobler around that time called “Admiral”, which has the same lines and cushions. Also the knobs next to the arm rests are the same. Finn Juhl also used similar knobs with his “Bwana” lounge chair for France and Son. Because of those similarities and the wood that is used, we are almost sure it a Scandinavian design.
This comfortable leather lounge chair will be a great addition to any Scandinavian Modern room and a great match with other Danish or Swedish items like the coffee or dining tables by Borge Mogensen or the sofa’s by Hans Wegner and Arne Norrel.
The chair is in good condition, with some patina to the leather seating. Cushions can be attached to the chair with buttons, so they will stay in place.
