Wall System by Tjerk Reijenga for Pilastro, Dutch Design 1955
Beautiful industrial Dutch wall system from the 50’s by Tjerk Reijenga for Pilastro.
Pilastro Furniture was started by Reijenga in 1955 to make a new modular wall unit in the same way other wall system maker String did. The Pilastro wall system was sold in various furniture stores in the Netherlands including the “Bijenkorf”, which is an Dutch luxury warehouse and the equivalent of “Harrods” in the UK.
The design had many different options such as desks, lights, cabinets etc. All available in different colors.
All the different modular pieces are made of lacquered steel. The pieces can be attached to each-other by using the iron risers that can hold the mounting brackets for the pieces. The iron risers have to be attached to a wall.
Reijenga his wall system is probably the most important Dutch wall system from the mid-century.
